Writers Interviews, Screenwriter Tyler Stanley

WRITER PROFILE

It’s always great to get together with a large group of writers and investors and keep up to date on what’s new, the screenplay contest, any recent deals, new dealmaker contacts, agents or managers that are looking and simply encouraging everyone to keep going after every dream in this difficult industry. For the hard working writer we want to do as much as we can to continue the exposure and word of mouth in the investment circles of the industry. Another way we do this is with writer interviews that we send far and wide and showcase at all possible meetings and markets.

We want to encourage your writing spirit, motivate you and again give you the accolades you so deserve.

What motivated you to become a writer?

I can’t help myself. I hate this about my skills because of the difficulty and pain of going to a stressful but wonderful day job not writing full-time. Like having your dog die every day over and over by discouragement. I keep getting up, it’s what I know.

Starting on a blank page is not easy- where does your creativity come from?

I don’t see a blank page ever. I see a warm, blue ocean calling me to dive deep and swim forever. I am a survivor of traumatic brain injury. My left brain was impacted severely. Making my work in recovery most all right brain. I’m full of scripts, books, TV show ideas, creativity runs like a broken faucet. I want to shut it off. At the same time words ache to come out. It doesn’t matter how good a writer I am or what I write. I cannot compete with people with more money to pay all the editors, script shapers or competitions. I can’t edit what I have. I got back rewrites on my script with very positive on it. She thinks it is good but I don’t know a beat or arc because I can’t conceptualize, “see” it or organize. I do not have that brain part. My road is a difficult one of disadvantage, but I give. I am on the Advisory for The Brain Injury Network of Marin, CA. I change others’ lives by day as the Director of Housing services in the Bay Area (live in san Diego) serving those on Autism Spectrum. I am a published author, Counting the Days Recovery Through the Romance Side of Brain on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/s?k=Counting+the+days+recovery+through+the+romance+side+of+the+brain&i=stripbooks&ref=nb_sb_noss

Do you write projects knowing that so many other factors need to happen to get it to screen and does that come into your project creation?

No. I must write to get this swirl of scenes cluttering my brain out, to free up space for a real job. If I did I’d never write anything. I don’t write for the “market” either. I let out what’s in me needing to go to the ocean page. I write for me.

What is your dream for this project and what other ancillary revenue do you think it could generate? Please include script title in reply.

TAGGED is the first of its kind therefore has huge potential. I have a favorite person Craig Kellem: https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0445559/ He mentored me. He loves TAGGED and I have a card he gave me about my talent. It stops there with brain injury. I need someone with a left brain. TAGGED will change film regarding gender. It is an exciting murder mystery where female roles not designed for men. No rapes and no violence support the male role. You must step away from movies to see it perpetuates old gender scenarios. My life is unique and I see it. I need someone to understand where movies need to go not continue to rot. TAGGED is for any audience over 13. It serves the male viewer without degrading females. My main character is a butch lesbian who is a District Attorney. She becomes responsible to find her father’s killer.  Etc. I want to be the first to see on screen a film that embraces the concept of a person not a gender. My main character is a person. She not pregnant or thinking about it. Her competence is not competition! She teams up with a friend of her father’s he is a local detective. Their relationship is to admire. This is not a lesbian movie or anti anybody it is a new world! It’s not your mama’s 1950’s anymore but inclusive. Film isn’t growing. My brother loves it! revenue I believe will be a shocker! It can drive products. My other completed project shopping for a publisher is: Traumatic Brain Injury Your keys to Abundance, this is my incredible life story few could survive. It tells hope how from blind and no speech brain damaged. I couldn’t walk. Died and lived. Doctors told my mother I would not do much beyond putting bathroom fixtures in plastic bags on a conveyor belt. I beat the odds, I walked JFK  law school graduating stage. Of course there is a lot of meat between. If I can do anyone can was never so true– here’s the proof. I have a TV show idea won’t say that here but along the lines of Welcome Back Kotter. I got a call form a producer about a program I created. He asked if I would write up something and join the set to make the show. Of course I say yes with caps. Did he die? He never followed up but I am still that person. The show has not been made!

How has your experience been with screenwriting contests for this project so far?

I won with “In the Women’s Writeroom” Competition in 2014. I placed first but not the finalist. I have not placed in others. I work in the nonprofit world I can’t keep financially up with entries.

If you could stand in a room full of investor partners looking at many projects what would you like them to know about you and this project?

As more books and materials are demanding to gender neutralize this film will break barriers in a way that makes for more fulfilling, better understanding and on toward successful relationships. In the 1980’s gender neutral books were the norm I have my own theory why it took a backseat but it is coming like a storm I’m hearing writers talk about no more pink or blue allow a child or person to choose potential over the confines of gender. This script is done right to carry this message. It respect of all! There’s killer on the loose but no one is thrown under a bus! It is original by combination and telling of events. Craig said I had a sense of humor in my work. What a complement.

Do you have any website links for your writing, credits, background, etc that you would like to share?

I need the time to complete it but here you go: https://www.totallytraumaticbrain.com/ You will see I am featured in a number of books. I have unused vacation coming up. NBHC  agency is staffed with great people. I can walk away long enough to finish my website.

Thank you for this wonderful opportunity.
