WRITER PROFILE
It’s always great to get together with a large group of writers and investors and keep up to date on what’s new, the screenplay contest, any recent deals, new dealmaker contacts, agents or managers that are looking and simply encouraging everyone to keep going after every dream in this difficult industry. For the hard working writer we want to do as much as we can to continue the exposure and word of mouth in the investment circles of the industry. Another way we do this is with writer interviews that we send far and wide and showcase at all possible meetings and markets.
We want to encourage your writing spirit, motivate you and again give you the accolades you so deserve.
“Sam Pascual”
Written by Chelsea Clark-James
What motivated you to become a writer?
It won’t leave me alone. I’ve tried.
Starting on a blank page is not easy- where does your creativity come from?
Overall from observing, reading, and being curious. I also keep notebooks of ideas to go back to when I need inspiration.
Do you write projects knowing that so many other factors need to happen to get it to screen and does that come into your project creation?
I am acutely aware of the many moving parts necessary to bring a film to completion and it is something I consider when writing. Overall I try to set a story up to be successful. I approach my writing as a foundation to let others build upon with their talents. Also, if a story doesn’t need car chases, explosions, or VFX I don’t use them. If the story needs something to blow up, by all means, KABOOM!
What is your dream for this project and what other ancillary revenue do you think it could generate? Please include script title in reply.
My dream for San Pascual is completed production and successful distribution. It is possible this could project could do well in the faith based marketplace, though it was not originally written for that. More than this project generating ancillary revenues, my hope is that it connects me with investors and supporters where our future work of making contained, engaging stories becomes the real payoff.
How has your experience been with screenwriting contests for this project so far?
I have only submitted for this contest and the NY Women in Film & TV Writer’s Lab, for which I am still in consideration.
If you could stand in a room full of investor partners looking at many projects what would you like them to know about you and this project?
This particular story is my most personal by far, many aspects having been pulled from my own experiences, but it deals with something everyone understands, the loss of a loved one.
This script has limited locations and a small cast because it works for this story. In particular, it could be produced with minimal changes under new COVID production guidelines.
