Writers Interviews, Christopher Thomas

WRITER PROFILE

It’s always great to get together with a large group of writers and investors and keep up to date on what’s new, the screenplay contest, any recent deals, new dealmaker contacts, agents or managers that are looking and simply encouraging everyone to keep going after every dream in this difficult industry. For the hard working writer we want to do as much as we can to continue the exposure and word of mouth in the investment circles of the industry. Another way we do this is with writer interviews that we send far and wide and showcase at all possible meetings and markets.

We want to encourage your writing spirit, motivate you and again give you the accolades you so deserve.

What motivated you to become a writer?

Acting motivated me to become a writer, because I wanted to see different stories told from diverse standpoints, that real people go thru and that everyone can relate to on a human level. I think there are a lot of stories out there that are untold, and are a large reality for many who feel voiceless or alone in their day to day lives. In addition providing inspiration or sending people home with a different perspective than they already had is what keeps the passion to write alive and makes it meaningful to me.

Starting on a blank page is not easy- where does your creativity come from?

I think my creativity comes from looking at things from many perspectives and starting with the inciting incident. I think we all can pinpoint the one thing or person, or even event that happens that causes a spiral downhill situation or a rising of a Phoenix moment. I think once I have an idea I think of what would happen next and how would the protagonist and antagonist react as time moves on. Watching movies since I was young and being an actor has helped as well because I have seen enough movies to think of new spins to put on things because of how things evolve over time.

Do you write projects knowing that so many other factors need to happen to get it to screen and does that come into your project creation?

I focused on the genuine points of views of the characters and the overall message of the film that I am writing. I use my experiences as an actor to make it insightful for the collaborators (actors, directors) thus making it financially beneficial, and marketable to the masses by using past experiences as a measuring stick of what people like to see and what they do not like to see.

What is your dream for this project and what other ancillary revenue do you think it could generate? Please include script title in reply.

My Dream for my two projects Swipe and for Half Gunned are for people to feel the emotions of the characters and have their own genuine reactions to them. I think there is at least one thing in both stories movie goers and movie watchers can relate to or have fantasized about and these films are an opportunity to see themselves in the characters. They have a chance in Swipe to live vicariously thru the main character, laugh at relatable scenarios we have all been in while looking for companionship by showcasing the differences of now and then and raise important attention to social questions about diversity in dating in year 2020. In Half Out viewers get entertainment, heart pumping action, and a look at the power and impact of the Father- Son relationship while living up to or with your father`s shadow. As far as the Ancillary revenue that these stories could provide, I think that with the social unrest for more inclusive diversity in films, and the massive protests that have occurred, people want more diverse content. There is an incredible amount of support ready to rally around diverse representation and minority representation on the big screen, across the world, which will generate big ROI and merchandising opportunities.

How has your experience been with screenwriting contests for this project so far?

These projects have been well received and have peaked interest to a wide, diverse array of people, wanting to see this made. Its a great feeling to share your creation and gain any reaction let alone a positive reaction, because it means people are taking an interest and investing time to check out what you have to offer.

If you could stand in a room full of investor partners looking at many projects what would you like them to know about you and this project?

I would want them to know how that there is a lack of authentic and diverse stories out there and that with the right partners we can make a real impact in the world by providing a voice for the diverse voiceless who yearn for more stories that depict their day to day lives in a original way. In the current social climate that we are in, there is a big opportunity to support great story telling, that share ups and downs in African American lives and showcase other underrepresented cultures that bring their authentic selves to the table. I have about 8 scripts created that vary in genres from Sci Fi, Comedy, Period pieces, Action and more that bring fresh takes on old ideas and also new original story ideas. In the African American community there is a big void that needs filling and I will work tirelessly to create great stories that people watching can be a part of and support.
