Writers Interviews, Miranda M. Filippides

WRITER PROFILE

It’s always great to get together with a large group of writers and investors and keep up to date on what’s new, the screenplay contest, any recent deals, new dealmaker contacts, agents or managers that are looking and simply encouraging everyone to keep going after every dream in this difficult industry. For the hard working writer we want to do as much as we can to continue the exposure and word of mouth in the investment circles of the industry. Another way we do this is with writer interviews that we send far and wide and showcase at all possible meetings and markets.

We want to encourage your writing spirit, motivate you and again give you the accolades you so deserve.

MEET ME AT THE LIGHTHOUSE

Written by Miranda M. Filippides

What motivated you to become a writer?

I’m passionate about words and have written poetry since my teenage years.  In my adult life as a clinician and academic I spent twenty years writing lengthy, in-depth reports about children and adults struggling with or for their humanity.  But it took my personal fight against advanced cancer to realize it was time to turn my life-long hobby into a second career.

Starting on a blank page is not easy- where does your creativity come from?

I find inspiration for my stories in: a stanza of poetry, a phrase from an overheard conversation, my patients’ stories that somehow have been engraved in my memory, the epic narrative of my multigenerational Greek family and from my personal experiences growing up and traveling on five continents.

Do you write projects knowing that so many other factors need to happen to get it to screen and does that come into your project creation?

Marketability, target audience, budget and characters that entertain and touch our humanity are central considerations as I begin to outline a story.  I read/ study film editing, production and directing in order to understand what these creators need from the writer.

What is your dream for this project and what other ancillary revenue do you think it could generate?

My dream is to develop this script, MEET ME AT THE LIGHTHOUSE into a movie. I daydream of the opportunity to work with the team of creators that will make it happen.

How has your experience been with screenwriting contests for this project so far?

Very positive, it has received several accolades and “considerations”.  Of the seven scripts I’ve written over the last three years, four have placed in numerous contests.  The feedback I have received has not only encouraged me as a writer, but has helped me improve my writing.

If you could stand in a room full of investor partners looking at many projects what would you like them to know about you and this project?

MEET ME AT THE LIGHTHOUSE is the kind of love story one wants to watch over and over, because from the first page one’s rooting against destiny, wishing for the happy ending.  So even after knowing the tragic ending one watches it again just to relive the hopeful journey of finding true love yet having to settle for forgiveness.

As for me, I’m a hopeless romantic, raised with one foot in the Middle East and the other in Europe.
