Writers Interviews, Screenwriter Ramona Lee Soo Jun

WRITER PROFILE

It’s always great to get together with a large group of writers and investors and keep up to date on what’s new, the screenplay contest, any recent deals, new dealmaker contacts, agents or managers that are looking and simply encouraging everyone to keep going after every dream in this difficult industry. For the hard working writer we want to do as much as we can to continue the exposure and word of mouth in the investment circles of the industry. Another way we do this is with writer interviews that we send far and wide and showcase at all possible meetings and markets.

We want to encourage your writing spirit, motivate you and again give you the accolades you so deserve.

“Kung Fu Bodyguard”

What motivated you to become a writer?

Life. I think life is a tremendous story, made of many other small stories. Each of these small stories deserve to be told.

Starting on a blank page is not easy- where does your creativity come from?

People. There is nothing more entertaining than watching the human comedy unleash.

Do you write projects knowing that so many other factors need to happen to get it to screen and does that come into your project creation?

I started out as a novelist. As a screenwriter, I’m aware that getting investment for a feature film is not easy. That is the reason why I decided to start my own production company and bring the right people together. As I always say, “If 99 doors close, I’ll find the 100th window, and still get in.”

What is your dream for this project and what other ancillary revenue do you think it could generate? Please include script title in reply.

A writer is not a writer without readers. A film producer is not a film producer, without an audience. My only dream is to entertain people through my stories; make them laugh or cry, or both at the same time. “Kung Fu Bodyguard”, is one of those stories.

How has your experience been with screenwriting contests for this project so far?

The “Kung Fu Bodyguard” script has been nominated and won at a few international film festivals. I think the feedback so far has been great, while the book, on which the script is based, has received good reviews as well.

If you could stand in a room full of investor partners looking at many projects what would you like them to know about you and this project?

I can’t stand “action for the sake of action”. A Kung-Fu film, an action film, without a good story, is only a martial arts choreography demonstration. Action should decorate the film, the story is the main attraction. I wish even people who have no knowledge about martial arts to watch “Kung Fu Bodyguard”, for the story.

Do you have any website links for your writing, credits, background, etc that you would like to share?
