What motivated you to become a writer?
Probably because I was influenced by my grandparents, all great storytellers of legends and tales. Already at primary school, I enjoyed telling and writing to entertain my friends. This is probably why I became a historian, a teacher and a writer afterwards, always to express that passion burning in me.
Starting on a blank page is not easy- where does your creativity come from?
After being very ill and having near-death experiences in my youth and later, I started experiencing paranormal phenomena myself. As crazy as it may sound, all my projects have been, or are, inspired by dreams or visions, like premonitions, and by guides who surround me and whisper words in my ear. So, it’s not my fault. I am only a messenger here.
Do you write projects knowing that so many other factors need to happen to get it to screen and does that come into your project creation?
Although I’m not a full-time writer yet, it would be silly to ignore the realities of the commercial market for film and TV production. Many excellent projects have not been produced due to lack of budget. This fact does influence my choices, and I also take it into account in the advice I receive as well as in the rewriting process.
What is your dream for this project and what other ancillary revenue do you think it could generate? Please include script title in reply.
The latest project I’m pushing out is titled “The Old Man Who Spoke to Angels”. It’s a supernatural thriller crime TV series pilot written along the same lines as the Constantine and The Alienist series. So, in an old elementary school he once attended where disturbing events have been taking place, an old asocial clairvoyant participates in an investigation on a series of murders targeting pedophiles.
My dream is to find a production company with whom it will connect to produce this series, which will then be presented on a TV platform. Since I am also a fan of the genre and many facts in the story were inspired by real events, this series is dear to me and my motivation to see it produced has no common measure.
I think this project could generate three seasons of 10 to 12 episodes of 60 minutes each, as well as another spin-off series.
“The Old Man Who Spoke to Angels”
Pilot Log Line: Called to talk to a young psychic witness about her father’s murder, an old asocial clairvoyant reminisces his troubled youth at the same school while a serial killer targeting pedophiles is on the prowl.
How has your experience been with screenwriting contests for this project so far?
My experience with writing contests is an experience in itself. For this project, as well as others, I admit to have made the mistake of submitting to contests by neglecting the rewriting process, i.e. sending it out too quickly, but still being selected occasionally. Once I realized this error, I participated again and it has been selected and praised as a winner by some screenplay festivals juries so far.
If you could stand in a room full of investor partners looking at many projects, what would you like them to know about you and this project?
A thriller crime paranormal show! Haven’t we seen that before? Maybe, but not often. Is it different enough to be outstanding? Yes. The series is unique in its kind. What sets it apart is that it focuses on the personal struggles of the characters while dealing with the paranormal situation humanely. It shows that gifts such as clairvoyance, although harrowing, may bear both practical and spiritual aspects. Likewise, when put to good use, such talents may help solve crimes and heal victims of violence, such as pedophilia.
Moreover, the paranormal has the favor of the public nowadays; surprisingly, more people are opening to it and even claim to have experienced it firsthand. But even the most rational among us, it remains a great show. So, I believe the suspenseful premise, believable characters, and rich themes will appeal to a very wide audience.
