WRITER PROFILE
It’s always great to get together with a large group of writers and investors and keep up to date on what’s new, the screenplay contest, any recent deals, new dealmaker contacts, agents or managers that are looking and simply encouraging everyone to keep going after every dream in this difficult industry. For the hard working writer we want to do as much as we can to continue the exposure and word of mouth in the investment circles of the industry. Another way we do this is with writer interviews that we send far and wide and showcase at all possible meetings and markets.
We want to encourage your writing spirit, motivate you and again give you the accolades you so deserve.
Second Dance
Written by Dexter Williams
(1) What motivated you to become a writer?
Steven Spielberg’s underrated 1979 film “1941” is what motivated and inspired me to become a screenwriter. That is because this “comedy spectacular” was unlike any film I have ever seen in the movie theatre. The story, the characters, the comedy, the action, and (of course) the directing were first-rate. It was the kind of film I’d love getting involved with, and that was the motivation for me to become a screenwriter.
(2) Starting on a blank page is not easy — where does your creativity come from?
My creativity comes from things that intrigue and fascinate me. I’m into the metaphysical and paranormal, so I write stories that explore the otherworldly like hypnosis, reincarnation, and even astral projection.
(3) Do you write projects knowing that so many other factors need to happen to get it to screen and does that come into your project creation?
I write projects simply because its subject matter intrigues me, and I like to bring my unique viewpoint on the world. I really try not to think about the other factors that are needed to bring a project to the screen, although I understand that it takes many people and a lot of money to make a motion picture.
(4) What is your dream for this project and what other ancillary revenue do you think it could generate?
“Second Dance” is my passion project, the one project I would love to bring to the screen. My dream for “Second Dance” is to show belly dancing in its beautiful and graceful form and to give it the respect it truly deserves. Ancillary revenue for “Second Dance” I believe could be generated through books, soundtracks and live performances.
(5) How has your experience been with screenwriting contests for this project so far?
My experience with screenwriting contests for “Second Dance” has far exceeded my expectations. The script was an Official Selection at the Oaxaca Filmfest and was even nominated for Best Overall Script. It has even won a couple of awards: winning the Special Jury Award at the North American Film Awards as well as the Best Feature Script award at the Indie Visions Film Festival.
(6) If you could stand in a room full of investor partners looking at many projects, what would you like them to know about you and this project?
I would want the investor partners to know that I am a screenwriter who bring true passion and a unique viewpoint to my stories. I would also want to tell them that “Second Dance” is unlike any dance-oriented film they will ever invest their money in, and that its ground-breaking story about belly dancing and reincarnation will have a tremendously positive impact on the filmgoers who go see it on the big screen.
(7) Do you have any website links for your writing, credits, background, etc. that you would like to share?
Although I don’t have an official website at this time, anyone who is interested to know more about me and my screenplays can contact me via email at Oyou78020 (at) Hotmail dot com
