What motivated you to become a writer?
I don’t know if I can pinpoint what motivates me to write. What I do know is what motivates me to write mostly for a family audience. A good story can motivate, captivate and inspire children young and old. If I do that, I can say it’s worth taking the time to make it happen.
Starting on a blank page is not easy- where does your creativity come from?
Call it ironic, but I’m blank on that one. It just comes.
Do you write projects knowing that so many other factors need to happen to get it to screen and does that come into your project creation?
Absolutely! I have experience working in the film industry in setdec, as an animation coordinator and casting. That’s taught me a great deal about other factors. Having made my own short films and working with others on larger productions, I always keep them in mind when I am creating.
What is your dream for this project and what other ancillary revenue do you think it could generate?
I’ve written the ending of my PLM 27 – Lethal Knowledge script as a setup for at least one sequel, possibly more. I tend to do that with most of my projects. I know it’s cliche, but I’m a firm believer in the saying, “always leave them wanting more”. The story sets up a world where three generations of spies on the friendly island of Newfoundland could go on many adventures. I can also see my female teen kickass main character as an action figure in the future.
How has your experience been with screenwriting contests for this project so far?
I have had a few screenplays place in Screenwriting contests so overall my experience has been positive. I’ve been a quarterfinalist in Page Awards, Final Draft’s Big Break Contest as well as Emerging Screenwriter’s top 100. I have been a Semifinalist in Creative Screenwriting Unique Voices Competition with two different scripts.
If you could stand in a room full of investor partners looking at many projects what would you like them to know about you and this project?
I was born and raised on the friendly island of Newfoundland; after the success of the broadway hit Come From Away, I can easily see the world enjoying an action flick steeped in Newfoundland humor. PLM 27 – Lethal Knowledge was inspired by other successful action franchises and snippets of actual history. Most importantly the fact that in WWII a German sub sank the ally ship PLM 27 off the Newfoundland coast.
Comparables would be The Kingsman: The Secret Service, Central Intelligence, Red, Spy and Snatch. Also, much like Snatch, it is set up with multiple villains and there are many attractive roles for A list actors.
