What motivated you to become a writer?
My mother was a reader and a writer. She had the collected plays of Eugene O’Neill and Bernard Shaw. I read them when I was 14. That’s when I got hooked.
Starting on a blank page is not easy- where does your creativity come from?
Just about anywhere. An overheard conversation. A dream (or nightmare). Someone once insulted me; I wrote a short comedy about it.
Do you write projects knowing that so many other factors need to happen to get it to screen and does that come into your project creation?
Considering that 99.99999% of all screenplays are never produced, you simply can’t let external factors determine your project’s creation. Like most writers, I remain eternally optimistic.
What is your dream for this project and what other ancillary revenue do you think it could generate?
The best comedies have a great story and great characters. Speak English has both. The characters are also quite diverse so the film should play well nationally and internationally. Our dream cast would include Javier Bardem, Jason Sudeikis, Selena Gomez, Dev Patel, and Al Pacino.
How has your experience been with screenwriting contests for this project so far?
In addition to the Capital Fund Screenplay Competition, Speak English has been recognized by multiple competitions, including the Nicholl Fellowships in Screenwriting,
Austin Film Festival Screenplay Competition, Cinequest Screenwriting Competition, BlueCat Screenplay Awards, and many more. It received a high score from Slated (76) and was invited onto their platform. It is also ranked in the top 3% of all 86,382 projects listed on Coverfly.
If you could stand in a room full of investor partners looking at many projects what would you like them to know about you and this project?
We have assembled a strong team behind Speak English, including director Todd Felderstein (Tzeva Adom: Color Red) and producer Anjul Nigam (Growing Up Smith).
Do you have any website links for your writing, credits, background, etc that you would like to share
