What motivated you to become a writer?
I am a disabled writer, I have had arthritis since I was two and a half years old. I found that all the time I spent in hospitals helped to create a universal in my mind. Stories just started to come to me in the droves. I just fell in love with creating worlds that I and fellow patients could escape into. I became an author but I was always drawn to the screen and the world of TV. I did some studying under a few wrestling writers and that lead me into doing some great stories. Now I write all the time it’s part of my being to just sit and write.
Starting on a blank page is not easy- where does your creativity come from?
It just flows from me like a tap being turned on. I have always been filled with stories due to my life revolving around not being able to do a lot. So the blank page is exciting for me. I only get nervous when I have to end the feature, pilot or story. I hate having to say goodbye to characters and I think that is why I love to write TV shows. For Waking Up His Wife, it was just a fun RomCom that rushed out of me. I enjoyed every minute and I left threads so that it could be franchised.
Do you write projects knowing that so many other factors need to happen to get it to screen and does that come into your project creation?
Not really, what matters to me most is the story. I know from my time doing mentorships, and working with wrestling writers and producers who are good friends that there is a lot from a great script to the screen. I did keep the process in mind when I edited Waking Up His Wife. I made sure there were locations that suited the RomCom, that a wrestling company could step in easily to provide the wrestling backdrop. I took into consideration the product placement of a well-known hotel, and the elements of the city of Las Vegas. These made the feature feel more to those who read it and it made the beats of the romantic elements feel more exciting.
What is your dream for this project and what other ancillary revenue do you think it could generate?
I dream about this feature being made and showing the other disabled writers out there that our dreams are possible. I also think a feature like this could help to keep the RomCom market going and make good revenue for investors after the success of The Lost City.
I think Waking Up His Wife offers a franchise opportunity with not just the actors, but in other cities, and other states. I think the other actors we would bring in for their own leading roles would bring a lot of attention and help to create a constant buzz. It could be a good opportunity to have a raunchy fun franchise like Fast and Furious because everyone’s journey to partnership is not a straight line or straightforward. The action these actors do through their characters makes it breathtaking and helps to bring two-billion-dollar markets together. If marketed right could be the highest-grossing RomCom that has ever been made or released.
How has your experience been with screenwriting contests for this project so far?
I did one and the person that read it came on board because he believed so much in it. He helped me get it to an even better version and is constantly working as a good supporter of the project. The other person who read it has been working with me to try to find an investor that would suit this. He is a young enthusiastic executive producer. I feel that all that have had a chance to know Anna and Adam love them. I can’t wait to share them with those out there who want to take a swim in the RomCom world.
If you could stand in a room full of investor partners looking at many projects what would you like them to know about you and this project?
Waking Up His Wife is the next RomCom that will outgross The Lost City, will challenge expectations and brings the very best talent to a genre that has been giving writers, and female viewers the best memories since the early 99s. This feature will shatter glass ceilings and will bring two-billion-dollar markets together. Whoever invests would be looking at a huge return on a movie that has never been done before and all the viewers out there are screaming for original material instead of reboots.
Do you have any website links for your writing, credits, background, etc that you would like to share?
