Writers Interviews, Screenwriter Mike Cohen

WRITER PROFILE

It’s always great to get together with a large group of writers and investors and keep up to date on what’s new, the screenplay contest, any recent deals, new dealmaker contacts, agents or managers that are looking and simply encouraging everyone to keep going after every dream in this difficult industry. For the hard working writer we want to do as much as we can to continue the exposure and word of mouth in the investment circles of the industry. Another way we do this is with writer interviews that we send far and wide and showcase at all possible meetings and markets.

We want to encourage your writing spirit, motivate you and again give you the accolades you so deserve.

AGENTS OF WRATH

What motivated you to become a writer?

As a younger man I ran a large print shop. As a courtesy to many of our clients I started correcting their copy and after a while I began writing copy for many of them. I discovered I enjoyed working with words and continued doing that as a sort of sideline to my regular duties. Fast forward to 1992 when I met and married my second wife, an actress in Los Angeles who encouraged me to write full time, not copy, but TV pilots and screenplays. We worked together creating comedy scripts and dramatic scripts and that was a truly fun, mutually satisfying activity that we still do to this day. Basically I write what needs to be read, I say what needs to be said.

Starting on a blank page is not easy- where does your creativity come from?

I’m not sure what the absolute source is – some say God. Others say the universe. For me it appears in a variety of ways – a comment, a beautiful phrase, an article, a real life experience, a song – any of these things and many others can trigger an entire story in my twisted mind and then I must write it!

Do you write projects knowing that so many other factors need to happen to get it to screen and does that come into your project creation?

I started life in business so of course I am aware of every single thing that must take place before an idea of mine can make the leap from the page to the screen. That being said I pay it absolutely no mind – I write what comes.

What is your dream for this project and what other ancillary revenue do you think it could generate? Please include script title in reply.

I wrote this project AGENTS OF WRATH as a tribute to a terrific friend of mine – the retired head of the DEA. It is based on his experiences, molded and brought to life by me. This is a story about the good guys, not the criminals and it needs to be made. And my friend needs to write a book about what took place in this screenplay and the dozens of other mind boggling, fascinating stories he has to tell.

How has your experience been with screenwriting contests for this project so far?

I don’t enter contests. I market my scripts directly to agents, directors and producers.

If you could stand in a room full of investor partners looking at many projects what would you like them to know about you and this project?

America needs a hero and this story is about an American Hero. A man who put his life on the line countless times to make America a better place and who rose to the very top of his profession. It differs from every other action adventure film because it’s all true. And it’s about time that the good guys took some screen time away from the criminals who seem to dominate.

Do you have any website links for your writing, credits, background, etc that you would like to share?
