Writers Interviews, Ross Clarkson

WRITER PROFILE

It’s always great to get together with a large group of writers and investors and keep up to date on what’s new, the screenplay contest, any recent deals, new dealmaker contacts, agents or managers that are looking and simply encouraging everyone to keep going after every dream in this difficult industry. For the hard working writer we want to do as much as we can to continue the exposure and word of mouth in the investment circles of the industry. Another way we do this is with writer interviews that we send far and wide and showcase at all possible meetings and markets.

We want to encourage your writing spirit, motivate you and again give you the accolades you so deserve.

Final Flight

What motivated you to become a writer?

I’ve been a director of photography and camera operator for 35+ years, I’ve worked on 60+ films. Years ago some of the scripts that I filmed were not good, and I said to myself “I could write a story better than that”. So I started writing, that was 12 scripts ago.

Starting on a blank page is not easy- where does your creativity come from?

I can’t just sit and write, it can take me a long time to figure out a story in my head first. I must think about the audience first, “is this something they want to see?” How can I make this entertaining? My creativity comes from the world around me, by keeping my eyes and ears open to what an audience is hungry for.

Do you write projects knowing that so many other factors need to happen to get it to screen and does that come into your project creation?

Yes, I write commercial stories, to me they have the most chance of getting made. Also because of my film industry experience I now about budgets and how long it will take to film a scene. I make sure the story is worthy of the budget.

What is your dream for this project and what other ancillary revenue do you think it could generate? Please include script title in reply.

Final Fight, it’s a high octane, action-packed film with a love story that will put audiences on the edge of their seats.

Logline: Trapped in a game where there can only be one winner, a former gamer must regain his fighting skills to save the life of his girlfriend and himself when they enter the next level of virtual reality gaming.

Final Fight could be a huge franchise, I play online games as do my sons and there are millions of players the world over, the market is already there. When players aren’t playing, they’re watching other players play. I want to bring battle royale type of stories to the big screen. There could be a fashion line created to enhance the film as well.

How has your experience been with screenwriting contests for this project so far?

I can’t say, I haven’t heard anything yet.

If you could stand in a room full of investor partners looking at many projects what would you like them to know about you and this project?

I follow movies, I pay attention to what the audience watch and what they want to see. “Extraction” was huge for Netflix, now they want more big budget action films that a young audience is attracted to. “Final Fight” is that film, it’s also poised to be a franchise as like Hunger Games was.
