What motivated you to become a writer?
When I was 8 years old, I decided that I wanted to be a reporter. This was following a school field trip to the local newspaper in southern Connecticut. We got to see the printing press–a gargantuan steel masterpiece that may as well have been a time machine in some 19th century novel. I worked on school newspapers, and entered college as a journalism student, only to switch to becoming a lit major (I’m an avid reader, and a lit degree is an excellent all-around education), while minoring in journalism.
Starting on a blank page is not easy- where does your creativity come from?
News stories and feature articles, mostly.
Do you write projects knowing that so many other factors need to happen to get it to screen and does that come into your project creation?
I take the production out of the initial writing process, since this is a major distraction. I can’t get hung up on what something costs, because I’m the writer, not the accountant…! Create the world on the blank page, the rest will sort itself out; you’re a writer: your script is definitely going to change to suit whatever vision producers and directors are going to ask for.
What is your dream for this project and what other ancillary revenue do you think it could generate? Please include script title in reply.
A serial I’m currently writing and publishing on Amazon Vella called Theorianis: The Chronicles of Lachlan Delaware Finchatton. It’s a world-building, character-driven, sci-fi, mystery, comedy that I absolutely believe will make an outstanding series streamer. 🙂
How has your experience been with screenwriting contests for this project so far?
I haven’t really entered many, so shame on me, I suppose. I’ve been busy with other day-to-day, career-related goals.
If you could stand in a room full of investor partners looking at many projects what would you like them to know about you and this project?
- You cannot underestimate work ethic. No way. It’s through work ethic that valuable writers and storytellers emerge, in my opinion.
- Writing is a business in Hollywood, and I completely understand that all scripts are essentially blueprints to something greater.
Do you have any website links for your writing, credits, background, etc. that you would like to share?
Here’s my blog for a novel I published called Everybody Gets Paid: Dryline Rhapsody, Vol 1. It’s actually pretty good, and gets into the mind of a writer during the process. On a related note, photography is a pursuit that allows me to slow down and observe, which, if you think about it, is what writers do. To this end, I produce, exhibit, and publish my photographs, samples of which you can see here – https://www.thomasmorganphotography.com/
