WRITER PROFILE
It’s always great to get together with a large group of writers and investors and keep up to date on what’s new, the screenplay contest, any recent deals, new dealmaker contacts, agents or managers that are looking and simply encouraging everyone to keep going after every dream in this difficult industry. For the hard working writer we want to do as much as we can to continue the exposure and word of mouth in the investment circles of the industry. Another way we do this is with writer interviews that we send far and wide and showcase at all possible meetings and markets.
We want to encourage your writing spirit, motivate you and again give you the accolades you so deserve.
POSTER GIRLS
Written by Wendy Joseph
What motivated you to become a writer?
Oh hell.
I never made a conscious decision to become a writer. I made up my first story when I was four years old and haven’t stopped since.
Starting on a blank page is not easy- where does your creativity come from?
Hell.
A word or phrase or character or situation comes into my head and I have to write it down. They don’t say where they come from.
Do you write projects knowing that so many other factors need to happen to get it to screen and does that come into your project creation?
I write what’s important to me. POSTER GIRLS is very important to me. I trust that sooner or later it will be important to others. I don’t kow-tow to the current oh hell market.
What is your dream for this project and what other ancillary revenue do you think it could generate? Please include script title in reply.
POSTER GIRLS is about the Rosie the Riveters of WWII. I want it to be included in the list of the 100 greatest movies of all time. No hell. There would certainly be revenue, and lots of it, from branding products with the Rosie the Riveter poster image, which is in the public domain.
How has your experience been with screenwriting contests for this project so far?
Oh hell. I just finished it five minutes ago and haven’t entered any contests yet, but I will. My other screenplays have won or placed in national contests.
If you could stand in a room full of investor partners looking at many projects what would you like them to know about you and this project?
Nobody’s done a project about this before, despite the ubiquitous, iconic We Can Do It poster and its message to women. Oh, hell! The stories of these women as individuals has never been told. I can do it. For production, there is an operational Liberty Ship available, which is the kind of ship these women built. I have an unquenchable desire to get POSTER GIRLS produced and won’t quit till I do. With your backing, We Can Do It.
Do you have any website links for writing, credits, background, etc that you would like to share?
I have won or placed in regional and national screenplay contests. My sword and sorcery novel, The Witch’s Hand, was published to critical acclaim and reader approval on Amazon.com. I won a Bad Hemingway contest and an oral Sea Stories contest; after fifteen years crewing cargo ships and outrunning pirates, I have a few sea stories to tell, all of which are true. (Ha! hell) Having my Rosies riveting ships instead of planes was no accident.
