WRITER PROFILE
It’s always great to get together with a large group of writers and investors and keep up to date on what’s new, the screenplay contest, any recent deals, new dealmaker contacts, agents or managers that are looking and simply encouraging everyone to keep going after every dream in this difficult industry. For the hard working writer we want to do as much as we can to continue the exposure and word of mouth in the investment circles of the industry. Another way we do this is with writer interviews that we send far and wide and showcase at all possible meetings and markets.
We want to encourage your writing spirit, motivate you and again give you the accolades you so deserve.

What motivated you to become a writer?
I write because I can not keep bottled up inside me a kind of sorrow mixed with joy and love for people. I need to discover what prevents us from being “the best version of ourselves,” what suffocates our sensitivity and love for others and how we can heal our relationships. Writing is how I flow through the discovery journey.
Starting on a blank page is not easy- where does your creativity come from?
I believe that creativity is a gift from God. Reality inspires me about the theme and characters, but it is a greater force beyond me Who gives life to the story, travels with me to places I never knew of, and reveals meanings I never thought about.
Do you write projects knowing that so many other factors need to happen to get it to screen and does that come into your project creation?
When I write the first draft, I just let my imagination flow. But when I rewrite, I bear in mind to keep only what is necessary for the economy of the story – to align the script with a producer’s needs.
What is your dream for this project and what other ancillary revenue do you think it could generate? Please include script title in reply.
I dream that “When Our Cherry Tree Is in Bloom” will travel around the world, telling a story that will touch many people’s hearts. I believe I’ll find a producer to help me fund the movie.
The first ancillary revenue which comes to my mind is from selling different objects inspired by the movie. For example, the kite is a symbol that appears several times in the story. A “Thomas’s kite”, named after the leading character’s name, could be created and sold as merchandise. Another idea is to publish an album with Thomas’s pictures of the Danube Delta (the place where it happens a significant part of the story).
How has your experience been with screenwriting contests for this project so far?
In 2019, “When Our Cherry Tree Is in Bloom” won the Jury’s Special Award at IPIFF (Indie Festival of Independent Film Producers, Romania) and was selected in Hot 100 by Capital Fund Screenplay Competition. In 2017 the script was chosen between the quarterfinalist at Scriptapalooza Screenplay Competition.
If you could stand in a room full of investor partners looking at many projects what would you like them to know about you and this project?
I am a Romanian screenwriter and screenwriting is my big passion. I did everything I could and beyond me to make my project work as a script.
“When Our Cherry Tree Is in Bloom” is a coming of age story about a 15 – year – old boy who grows up and starts to heal his relationship with his estranged father. Estranged families is a common issue in our modern world, and this story could inspire parents to build profound bonds with their children and give them a sense of belonging even if they do not live together. It can also encourage teenagers to open their hearts and communicate with their parents about the things that keep them apart.
