What motivated you to become a writer?
My mother said I started writing when I was all of five years old. I wrote a neighborhood “newspaper” as a kid. I also drew and wrote dialogue for a superhero comic book I created, “The Cougar.” I graduated to writing poetry, essays, and short stories before I found my place in screenwriting.
Starting on a blank page is not easy- where does your creativity come from?
Stories are literally everywhere. I’m naturally curious and introspective. Thoughts and images flood my mind constantly. I have to sort through the weeds to find a story idea that excites me, especially something new, then I start writing.
Do you write projects knowing that so many other factors need to happen to get it to screen and does that come into your project creation?
I’m a film producer and stay aware of the trends in movies and TV, but I write for myself first, finding a market is after Fade Out. I’ve been approached to write stories that I’m not passionate about and won’t attempt it If I’m not excited. If I’m not interested, the reader or viewer won’t be either.
What is your dream for this project and what other ancillary revenue do you think it could generate?
I’m a prolific writer. My current projects are dramas that organically introduce elements of humor and romance. They often begin with disparate characters who are forced to depend on each other in the face of significant threats or impending disasters.
How has your experience been with screenwriting contests for this project so far?
Right now, a drama, Memory Boxes, has advanced to the finals in the StoryPros Awards Screenplay Contest. Another drama, Teeter, just started in the quarterfinals of a faith-based competition.
If you could stand in a room full of investor partners looking at many projects what would you like them to know about you and this project?
I am a prolific, award-winning screenwriter and a Christian minister who writes character-driven dramas that don’t depend on a deluge of “F bombs” or inane violence to tell a compelling story. Box office stats show that PG-13 movies are quite viable in the AFM and foreign markets.
