Writers Interviews, Screenwriter Kevin Kraft

WRITER PROFILE

It’s always great to get together with a large group of writers and investors and keep up to date on what’s new, the screenplay contest, any recent deals, new dealmaker contacts, agents or managers that are looking and simply encouraging everyone to keep going after every dream in this difficult industry. For the hard working writer we want to do as much as we can to continue the exposure and word of mouth in the investment circles of the industry. Another way we do this is with writer interviews that we send far and wide and showcase at all possible meetings and markets.

We want to encourage your writing spirit, motivate you and again give you the accolades you so deserve.

DOBORO THE BOTTLENECKER

What motivated you to become a writer?

I knew I wanted t be a writer when very young. I loved listening to stories at school and at home with my Dad. I always appreciated the power of effective storytelling and determined early that I wanted to become a master storyteller. Since I showed an exceptional command over the written word, becoming a writer was a foregone conclusion.

Starting on a blank page is not easy- where does your creativity come from?

I rarely encounter writer’s block or an insurmountable white page. My mind is always cultivating something that I can write down. I have always has a vivid imagination and which is inexhaustible.

Do you write projects knowing that so many other factors need to happen to get it to screen and does that come into your project creation?

No, I don’t, for better or worse. I write and worry about how to get it to the screen.

What is your dream for this project and what other ancillary revenue do you think it could generate? Please include script title in reply.

To make it! DOBORO THE BOTTLENECKER involves music and I have been working on songs for the soundtrack. (In fact, I am releasing my first EP called SONGS FROM THE BOTTLENECK, referencing the tie-in to the eventual movie. The protagonist, Doboro, plays a cigar box guitar. A line of cigar box guitars for sale is in the works. Doboro sports a singular look that includes a wide-brim fedora-type hat and Silver Canyon Boots and Clothing Company has agreed to supply the hats for our production. But imagine if a line of DOBORO hats could be produced. Or sunglasses, since Doboro is blind and uses them. This is say nothing about the fact of the Doboro the Bottlenecker book series is already a fact, the first release garnering excellent reviews.

How has your experience been with screenwriting contests for this project so far?

I was an official selection in the International Christian Film & Music Festival. Other than that, I have not submitted it to many contests at all.

If you could stand in a room full of investor partners looking at many projects what would you like them to know about you and this project?

That the book, the character and the prospect of a film or even webseries or tv series is a subject of some excitement with those I talk to about it. Faith-based, family and action-adventure films are consistently lucrative, and DOBORO is all of these things, communicating universal values of family, faith, perseverance, and vigilance. Doboro, while not a superhero, embodies the honor and courage and resilience we would all like to recognize in ourselves. DOBORO could be very, very lucrative and it wouldn’t have to be  horribly expensive to achieve effective results. If given the resources, I know I could produce a fantastic indie film that could garner a broad and appreciative audience indeed.
