Writers Interviews, Faith Cox

WRITER PROFILE

It’s always great to get together with a large group of writers and investors and keep up to date on what’s new, the screenplay contest, any recent deals, new dealmaker contacts, agents or managers that are looking and simply encouraging everyone to keep going after every dream in this difficult industry. For the hard working writer we want to do as much as we can to continue the exposure and word of mouth in the investment circles of the industry. Another way we do this is with writer interviews that we send far and wide and showcase at all possible meetings and markets.

We want to encourage your writing spirit, motivate you and again give you the accolades you so deserve.

The Day I Danced

Written by Faith Cox

What motivated you to become a writer?

I have enjoyed writing since I was a young middle school student.  I have written poetry, children’s and teen manuscripts, and recently have a published women’s fiction story in an anthology.

Twenty years ago, my husband wrote his first screenplay and I became interested in seeing if that is something I could do, too.  I put pen to paper with ideas, learned the screenwriting format, typed the script, and sent to contests and coverages for feedback to learn all I could.  Fourteen features and eight shorts later, I am a multi-award-winning screenwriter with a script in post-production.

Starting on a blank page is not easy- where does your creativity come from?

God is my inspiration. I have a heart to write original, heartfelt screenplays to encourage, inspire, and entertain.

Do you write projects knowing that so many other factors need to happen to get it to screen and does that come into your project creation?

I realize many factors work together to create the end product.  I do consider the many factors when I write which is why I write low to mid budget screenplays.

What is your dream for this project and what other ancillary revenue do you think it could generate?

“The Day I Danced” is a story of an unexpected event that could have shattered a young lady’s dream, but she didn’t give up even through the trials.  In fact, she became more blessed than she ever could have imagined even through her new disability in life.  My dream for “The Day I Danced” is for it to be seen across the globe to encourage and give inspiration to the disabled, everyone who is giving up on their dreams, and anyone who wants to create a new dream.  Every life is important, and every life should be filled with hope and inspiration.  “The Day I Danced” is a film that can reach across boundaries and bring people together.  I believe it is able to “dance” into people’s lives and will provide a market for additional revenue through blu-rays, dvds, t-shirts, mugs, and other miscellaneous items.  The carousel scene is a great scene along with Mary in Dewei’s arms as she has her first dance.

How has your experience been with screenwriting contests for this project so far?

“The Day I Danced” has recently placed in “The Hot 100 List” of Capital Fund Screenplay Competition along with being a two-time Semi-finalist in other contests and a six-time Quarter-finalist.

If you could stand in a room full of investor partners looking at many projects what would you like them to know about you and this project?

I write original, thoughtful screenplays with heart that bring laughter and tears to encourage, inspire, and entertain.  “The Day I Danced” will touch lives in a positive way; not only in the theatre, but also it will remain with the audience and inspire them in their daily living.
