Writers Interviews, Morris Jackson

WRITER PROFILE

It’s always great to get together with a large group of writers and investors and keep up to date on what’s new, the screenplay contest, any recent deals, new dealmaker contacts, agents or managers that are looking and simply encouraging everyone to keep going after every dream in this difficult industry. For the hard working writer we want to do as much as we can to continue the exposure and word of mouth in the investment circles of the industry. Another way we do this is with writer interviews that we send far and wide and showcase at all possible meetings and markets.

We want to encourage your writing spirit, motivate you and again give you the accolades you so deserve.

 Thee Escorts

Written by Morris Jackson

What motivated you to become a writer?

Half of my family’s generation was wiped out in late 70s and early 80s, and I strived to keep their legacy alive. Out of twelve children my grandmother had, only seven remain including my father. Through his pain, he told me who they were before their last breathes that became letters on a page. Through pain and lost, I write.

Furthermore throughout my youth, I was quiet and felt nervous that many people will not accept my voice or ideals. Instead of hiding it away for it to be lost in time, I decided to pick up a pen and charge forward.

Starting on a blank page is not easy- where does your creativity come from?

It branches from my grandmother and dad’s stories they told me as a child. From there, it was the films that inspires my imagination from Jurassic Park to Terminator 2: Judgement Day to Star Wars (1977). Growing to adulthood, it was my own experiences that catapulted my writing.

Do you write projects knowing that so many other factors need to happen to get it to screen and does that come into your project creation?

I write my script freely without thinking about budget, but this is for the first draft only. When I arrive at the second draft, I think about the script from the standpoint of a producer.

What is your dream for this project and what other ancillary revenue do you think it could generate? Please include the script title in reply.

My dream for my sci-fi drama called Thee Escorts is to genuine reach the people who are seeking meaning and overcoming pain. However on the surface, I believe we can attract a big crowd with all the various fast cars and the extra terrestrial storylines. Hence, move over Fast and Furious.

How has your experience been with screenwriting contests for this project so far?

I have placed in a few contests such as the 2018 Blue Cat Quarterfinals, 2020 Page Award Quarterfinals, Emerging 2020 Screenwriter’s Top 100, and 2021 Warner Media Pipeline Project Development Quarterfinals (still going on).

If you could stand in a room full of investor partners looking at many projects what would you like them to know about you and this project?

You should pick this project… if you do not believe in self-discovery, high octane action, and a sea of diverse characters and endless possibilities.

Do you have any website links for your writing, credits, background, etc that you would like to share?
